The Loft
Artful & Urban
The original furnishings in this Gastown loft were distracting from its unique design features. By simplifying the space with a neutral point, sleek mid-century lighting, and only a few signature pieces, this lofts unique industrial features were highlighted.
This was a dream assignment I did with Dekora on The Stagers with the help of Sarah and Dina Holmes. I'm a sucker for brick and homes with industrial heritage. Amidst the clutter we discovered that the client owned several very interesting pieces and the chaise sectional from Inform Interiors was the coup de grace.
Working with Sarah can always be tricky, especially if it involves shopping. Using every opportunity to turn any blank wall into a canvas, she ventured to Marimekko, a leading Finnish textile and clothing design company. Although she was distracted by the shift dresses in the next aisle, she managed to find a greatTuuli Duvet Cover as well as a Hetkia shower curtain that made me wet. I owe her that dress.
And what's a loft without photography? We broke standard staging procedure and hit up my friend Jeff Petry for two of his beautiful photos. The works were mounted on aluminum (37"x37") and titled This is My Vessel and This Boy Sat respectively. Petry's work "plays on narratives that are collective and individual, fictitious and autobiographical, fantastic and banal." Jeff stole the show.
